2.    INTRODUCTION TO SERIES ON CHINESE GOVERNMENT

By Jane Wu, Professor, College of DuPage

Photo Exhibit.  The USCPFA-Chicago Chapter has arranged the display of thirty photos juxtaposing old and new Beijing in the College of DuPage library, which is located to the left of the Student Resources Center (SRC), where we have held the Annual China Symposium in 2004 and 2005.  These photos are the product of a collection of professional photographers who are members of the Beijing Photographers’ Association.

Introduction to Series on Chinese Government.  This introduction will be held in an adjoining meeting room near the library.  After sufficient Chapter members have arrived to view the photo exhibit, instructions will be provided as to the location of such meeting room.  Those arriving late should ask the librarian as to the location of such room.  NO MEAL WILL BE SERVED.   Please bear with us for this change of format, but in the interest of viewing the photo exhibit, we were not able to include arrangements for the meal which is typically served as part of our monthly meeting.

Jane has been a regular commentator on China on the PBS show, Chicago Tonight with John Calloway, and heads the Asian Forum at COD.  The Chapter’s series on How China Solves Tasks of Government began informally at the June meeting, when a visiting member of China’s National People’s Congress relayed informal remarks and anecdotes about that governmental body during the dinner hour, and before the regularly scheduled monthly talk for June on Chinese stocks.  At the July meeting, a more formal, but relatively short introduction to this series (20-25 minutes, or so) will be presented by Jane Wu, Professor, College of DuPage, and a member of the Board of the Chicago Chapter.
