“WOW!!!”  “WHAT ARTISTRY!!!”  “SUCH PERCEPTIVE INSIGHT!!!”  These are typical of comments heard from patrons at the Mon. Dec. 4 evening Welcoming Reception for the above exhibit and delegation of Beijing artists.  A corresponding Open House is being held during daylight, at the Sun. afternoon, Dec. 17, 2006 Open House (2-4 pm), and you are encouraged to attend, with your family and friends. YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED.

THIS EXHIBIT EXTENDS THOUGH DECEMBER 2006 AND JANUARY 2007, so if you cannot attend the Sun. afternoon Dec. 17 Open House, visit this exhibit with family and friends another occasion during this period.

Master Beijing Artist’s 10 Contemporary Versions of Traditional Chinese Ink Paintings on the quintessiantially Chinese motif, FISH (2nd Fl.).  When you experience Mr. Zhu’s work, you will begin to understand his master’s reputation in Beijing.  At once both contemporary and traditionally Chinese, this ink painting genre exhibit (both black and white and colored) is focused, under Mr. Zhu’s hand, on seemingly endless variations integrating fish motifs with other images (including other fish).  Aesthetic masterpieces by themselves, the fish motif is also central to many facets of China, including without limitation its cuisine, livelihood, ingenuity, and iconography.  According to Mr. Zhu, each painting is typically imbued with several layers of meaning, despite the seeming ease (but juxtaposed combination of care) with which each masterpiece is composed.

2 Photo Exhibits by Master Beijing Phototgraphers.

Ordinary Beijinger’s Life (Library’s 2nd Fl)  The vitality and personality of a wide variety of ordinary Beijing residents is memorably captured through the vignettes represented by this series of 40 or so black and white photographs by some of Beijing’s top photographers.

Beijing: Old and New.  (Library’s 1st Fl, at Entrance).  This exhibit of another 40 or so photos juxtaposes color scenes of old and new Beijing.

This annual exhibit is made available through the combined auspices of the USCPFA-Chicago Chapter and its liaison in Beijing, the Beijing Peoples’ Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries, or Youxie (“Friendship”), which each year enlists the participation of the Beijing Federation of Literature & Art and its subsidiary organization, the Beijing Photographers’ Association, of which the exhibiting artists are officers and members.
